A brand new trailer for Ms. Marvel has arrived showing off Kamala Khan's new powers ahead of the series' June 2022 release date. Marvel Studios confirmed plans for Kamala Khan to lead a Disney+ show in 2019 at D23. The Pakistani-American teenager became a fan-favorite Marvel hero after her comics debut in 2013, and is set to make her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut less than a decade later. Newcomer Iman Vellani landed the lead role in Ms. Marvel, which will set her up to appear in more MCU projects going forward.
Marvel surprisingly offered the first look as Ms. Marvel during 2020, which only provided fans with a brief look at Kamala Khan's solo show. The series has long been confirmed to release sometime in 2022, but the studio continued to hold off showing too much from the series. The secrecy came as promotional materials for Ms. Marvel teased Kamala's reimagined powers for the MCU. She was originally introduced as an "Inhuman" in the comics, but it had been rumored that the MCU could change the origin and nature of her powers. The lack of an official Ms. Marvel release date or trailer also came as reshoots continued on the series.
Now, Marvel Studios has released a proper look at the series with the first official Ms. Marvel trailer being released, and it looks unlike any other MCU project to date. The new footage shows Kamala Khan's new energy powers originating from gauntlets. The Ms. Marvel trailer also confirms the show begins streaming on Disney+ starting June 8, 2022. Check it out below:
The Ms. Marvel trailer certainly strikes a unique tone compared to past MCU Disney+ shows. WandaVision emulated different sitcom eras, while The Falcon and the Winter Soldier went the buddy-cop route. Loki then became a cosmic mystery thriller, and Hawkeye was a Christmas comedy. However, Ms. Marvel is quite clearly leaning into teenage angst, with Kamala Khan navigating high school as her coming-of-age story incorporates becoming a superhero. It is not clear, though, if some of the 2D animated word bubbles and sound accents are elements that will be used in the show, or whether they were just added for the Ms. Marvel trailer.
Now that Marvel released a proper look at Ms. Marvel and confirmed the release date, Kamala Khan fans can begin to get even more excited for her MCU debut. The power changes might still leave some viewers uneasy about how the MCU is adapting Ms. Marvel, but this new trailer at least provides glimpses of her cosmic powers replicating the enlargement abilities. The Ms. Marvel trailer also puts a heavy emphasis on Kamala's Pakistani heritage and identity as a Muslim woman, which are important character elements that Marvel is staying true to in its live-action iteration of the iconic character.
