The Kansas City Chiefs are once again heading back to the Super Bowl. Specifically, this will be the third time in four years that the Chiefs will represent the AFC in the big game. The team that prevented them from making it four years in a row was the Cincinnati Bengals, who defeated them in overtime in the AFC Championship Game last year. This time around, the Chiefs got their revenge.

In a tense, dramatic game, Kansas City picked up the 23-20 victory after a clutch run by quarterback Patrick Mahomes with the added 15-yard chunk after a unnecessary roughness penalty by Joseph Ossai. That allowed Harrison Butker to attempt a 45-yard field goal, which went between the uprights to send the Chiefs to the Super Bowl.

CBS sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson caught up with Mahomes after the game. Mahomes spoke about how he was able to play through the ankle sprain he suffered last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars, while also crediting the team for the win. Oh, and dropped a dig towards the Bengals regarding the “Burrowhead” talk they had since last week.
When on the stage to accept the Lamar Hunt trophy, Mahomes was asked by CBS play-by-play commentator Jim Nantz about the clutch run he had to set up Butker’s game-winning field goal.
Andy Reid spoke on the stage with Nantz, as he is set to participate in his fourth Super Bowl as a head coach. Of course, Reid asked the crowd at Arrowhead Stadium “how about those Chiefs.”
Prior to his three trips with the Chiefs, he was the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. Fittingly, Reid and the Chiefs are set to take on the Eagles in Super Bowl 57 in Arizona. When asked about playing the team that fired him 10 years ago, Reid kept his answer short and sweet.
“Here we come, Philly.”
The Chiefs will now have the next two weeks to get ready for the big game on Sunday, Feb. 12 at State Farm Stadium. Will Mahomes and Reid win their second Super Bowl ever? Or will the Eagles walk away with their second-ever Lombardi Trophy?
