An Aaron Rodgers trade has yet to officially go through. While the delay might be causing doubts for some, it’s still as likely as ever to go through.
We're still waiting for the official confirmation of the trade that everyone's been anticipating between the Green Bay Packers and the New York Jets. A little over a month ago, the Jets executives flew to southern California to meet with Aaron Rodgers and convinced him to join their team, sporting a new shade of green. However, there's been no announcement yet.
The reason for the delay, as per reports, has been compensation for the Packers, which is not surprising. Green Bay doesn't have much bargaining power, and New York isn't exactly in a strong position either. This has led some outsiders to speculate about other teams that could potentially be involved in the deal and express their opinions.
The NFL Draft, scheduled for April 27th, is fast approaching, and time is running out. If the Jets and Packers can't reach a deal before the second round of picks on April 28th, the trade will become much more complicated. This is because Green Bay is likely looking for either pick 42 or 43, which the Jets currently hold, as part of the compensation for Rodgers.
In addition to the deadline affecting the potential assets involved in the trade, there's another factor to consider - Aaron Rodgers and his willingness to play for the Jets.
Only thing standing in the way of a trade is Aaron Rodgers changing his mind
It may sound unlikely, but as Mike Florio suggested, the only thing that could potentially derail this trade is if Aaron Rodgers changes his mind about playing for the Jets. However, as Florio cleverly pointed out, if this were to happen, Rodgers would become a "supervillain" in New York City.
For most players, the idea of changing their mind wouldn't even cross their minds. However, Aaron Rodgers is known to be quite unique, and it's possible that he could get frustrated if the trade takes too long to materialize. It's hard to say for sure, though. Maybe he's currently in the middle of another "darkness retreat" and isn't even aware that the trade hasn't been completed yet.
Both the Jets and the Packers have been preparing for their future and offseason based on the expectation that this trade will happen. Green Bay has decided to make Jordan Love their starting quarterback and will be building their team around him. Meanwhile, the Jets have declined to pursue other veteran quarterbacks like Jimmy Garoppolo, knowing that they have a potential trade for Aaron Rodgers in the works.
In reality, the only thing that could potentially prevent the trade from happening is Aaron Rodgers himself. However, for now, he has chosen to stay out of it and has indicated that he will leave it up to the two teams to work out the details.
With only two weeks remaining until the trade becomes significantly more complicated, time is of the essence. It's safe to assume that if the trade isn't finalized by then, Aaron Rodgers will start to become impatient as well.
