The Philadelphia Eagles squandered away a double-digit lead against Kansas City in Super Bowl LVII, losing in the final seconds on a game-winning field goal, 38-35.
The NFL’s leader in sacks failed to get a takedown of Patrick Mahomes throughout the entire game, much to the dismay of Haason Reddick, the Eagles’ star linebacker, who finished with 16 sacks in his first season with the team after spending one year in Carolina and four years with the Arizona Cardinals.
Reddick was less than pleased with State Farm Stadium’s field conditions despite the Eagles arguably losing the game on a phantom interference penalty that set up the winning kick, he said.
“Most definitely, I’m not going to lie; it was the worst field I’ve ever played on,” Reddick said after the loss.
Reddick also detailed what the playing surface was like, even going as far as changing his cleats mid-game. According to him, it did not make a difference either way, nor did it change the eventual outcome of the bow tied on the 2022-23 NFL season.
“You saw it. Y’all watched the same game,” Reddick said. “Y’all watched the game, y’all saw it. There was a lot of slipping all over that field. It didn’t even matter. I changed my cleats, still had seven studs, and was still was slipping so I don’t know. You know, I don’t want to use it as an excuse. I’m not that type of guy. I’m not going to make excuses. Still props to them, they still won, they’re champs, they should enjoy it.”

Reddick spoke out with the hope that another player does not fall into the same trap he did, essentially saying that the league should take further action in the offseason and should monitor conditions more carefully, especially ahead of a high-profile event like the Super Bowl.
For now, though, the Eagles will look to rebound with another championship game appearance beginning in September, as the squad finished 16-4 on the season.
